What is a lip lift?

A lip lift is a surgical procedure aimed at enhancing the appearance of the lips by creating a more defined and youthful upper lip contour.

The shape and volume of our lips change over time, often resulting in a longer, less defined upper lip and an overall less youthful appearance. A surgical lip lift effectively addresses these concerns by shortening the upper lip length, increasing the visibility of the vermilion border (the border between the lip and the surrounding skin), and creating a fuller, more aesthetically pleasing lip shape.

Should I undergo a lip lift?

A lip lift is a good procedure for anyone who wants to rejuvenate their upper lip.

During your consultation, Dr. Gino Vissers will assess your lip and overall facial anatomy, and determine whether you are a good candidate for a lip lift.

A lip lift can treat any of the following issues:

  • Long upper lip
  • Thin upper lip

What happens during the procedure?

During the procedure, Dr. Gino Vissers will make discreet incisions at the base of the nose, hidden within natural creases to minimise visible scarring. Through these incisions, a precise amount of skin is removed, and the upper lip is lifted to the desired position, exposing more of the red lip and creating a more youthful pout.

A lip lift can be tailored to meet each patient's unique needs and desired outcome. Whether it's creating a subtle enhancement or a more dramatic change, Dr. Gino Vissers will work closely with you to develop a personalised treatment plan that best achieves your aesthetic goals.

What to expect after a lip lift?

Recovery after a facelift involves minimal downtime. The recovery time is 5-7 days. Expect some swelling and bruising, which is completely normal, and can be relieved with pain medication and ice packs. Most patients are back to full activity within 1 week.

Dr. Gino Vissers will provide detailed post-operative instructions to promote optimal healing and ensure a smooth and comfortable recovery process.

FAQ

  • Can I have a lip lift if I had lip filler?

Yes, it is technically possible to have a lip lift procedure if you had lip fillers in the past. Dr. Gino Vissers will carefully assess your anatomy and discuss what would be the best option for you.

  • Can you smile after a lip lift?

You can smile immediately after a lip lift. However, it is best to restrict lip movement for at least a few days after the procedure.

  • Does a lip lift involve the lower lip?

A typical lip lift involves only the upper lip. Dr. Gino Vissers will carefully assess your lips and overall facial anatomy. If any treatment for the lower lip will bring more balance and harmony to your face, Dr. Gino Vissers will offer additional treatments for the lower lip as well.

  • What will the scars look like?

The scars will be hidden in the hair line and just in front of the ear and will be nearly invisible. Sometimes it is needed to extend the scars behind the ear.
