What is a nanofat transfer?

Nanofat transfer, also known as fat stem cell grafting, is a procedure that offers a natural and long-lasting solution for skin regeneration and enhancement.

As we age, the skin naturally loses its strength and quality and begins to show signs of sagging and wrinkles. This can also result in dark circles under the eyes or a dull skin tone. Nanofat transfer addresses these concerns by using the patient's own stem cells to regenerate the skin and rejuvenate the overall appearance.

The difference with a classic fat transfer is that nanofat is meticulously processed until only the fat stem cells remain. As a result, nano fat will only improve your skin quality and not add volume or bulk to your face.

Should I undergo a nanofat transfer?

A nanofat transfer is a good procedure for anyone who wants to regenerate and improve their skin quality.

During your consultation, Dr. Gino Vissers will assess your skin, facial anatomy, and the potential areas of your body where fat can be harvested from, and determine whether you are a good candidate for a nanofat transfer.

A nanofat transfer can treat any of the following issues:

  • Thinned, wrinkled skin
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Dull skin tone
  • Scars

A surgeon is doing liposuction on a patient in an operating room.

What happens during the procedure?

During the procedure, Dr. Gino Vissers carefully extracts excess fat from donor areas, such as the abdomen or thighs, using a gentle liposuction technique. The harvested fat is then meticulously processed and purified until only the stem cells of the fat remain. The stem cells are then injected into the skin for regeneration and rejuvenation.

A nanofat transfer provides several advantages over skin boosters, as it uses the body's natural material, reducing the risk of allergic reactions or rejection. Additionally, the transferred fat stem cells can integrate well with the surrounding tissues, providing a more natural and long-lasting result.

What to expect after a nanofat transfer?

Recovery after a nanofat transfer involves minimal downtime. You will be able to go home immediately after your procedure. Most patient resume to normal activities on the same day or within a few days. Discomfort will be minimal and can be relieved with pain medication.

Expect some mild swelling and redness in the grafted and donor areas. This is completely normal and the redness resolves quite quickly. It may take up to a few months before the swelling has completely settled.

Dr. Gino Vissers will provide detailed post-operative instructions to promote optimal healing and ensure a smooth and comfortable recovery process.

FAQ

  • How long do the results last?

The beauty of a nanofat transfer is that your body recognises your own fat stem cells, and they will become integrated in your body. The stem cells are living cells and the results are longer lasting than skin boosters. Dr. Gino Vissers recommends a "touch up" nanofat transfer every 3-5 years.

  • Is a nanofat transfer painful?

A nanofat transfer is considered to be a relatively painless procedure and can be comfortably performed under local anaesthesia.

  • What will the scars look like?

The scars used for a nanofat transfer are very small (usually only a few millimeters). Dr. Gino Vissers will place the scars strategically so they will be nearly invisible.

  • What age should you be to get a nanofat transfer?

Most patients have a nanofat tranfser when they are in their 40s or older. However, you can have a fat transfer at a younger age if you suffer from dark circles under your eyes or a dull skin tone.
