What is lower eyelid surgery?

Lower eyelid correction, also known as lower blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure aimed at rejuvenating the appearance of the lower eyelids.

The lower eyelids are prone to developing signs of aging such as sagging skin, puffy bags, and wrinkles. These changes can make individuals look tired, aged, or perpetually fatigued. Lower blepharoplasty effectively addresses these concerns by removing excess skin and repositioning fat deposits, resulting in a more rejuvenated and harmonious eye area.

Should I undergo lower eyelid surgery?

Lower eyelid surgery is a good procedure for anyone who wants to rejuvenate their eye area.

During your consultation, Dr. Gino Vissers will assess your skin and eyelids, and determine whether you are a good candidate for lower eyelid surgery.

Lower eyelid surgery can treat any of the following issues:

  • Saggy skin of the lower eyelids
  • Fat excess in lower eyelids
  • Puffy bags under the eyes
  • Wrinkles under the eyes
  • Tired look

What happens during the procedure?

During the procedure, Dr. Gino Vissers will make discreet incisions which will be hidden at strategical places, so the scars will be invisible. Through these incisions, excess skin is excised, and any protruding fat deposits are addressed.

Lower eyelid correction can be customised to suit each patient's unique needs and desired outcome. Whether it's addressing under-eye bags, reducing puffiness, smoothing out wrinkles, or improving overall symmetry, Dr. Gino Vissers will work closely with you to develop a personalised treatment plan that achieves your aesthetic goals.

What to expect after lower eyelid surgery?

Recovery after lower blepharoplasty typically involves a short downtime. Patients will need to take about a week off from work to rest and recover. Expect some swelling and bruising that will build over the first few days, then diminish, and slowly fade over the next 7-10 days. Dr. Gino Vissers may prescribe you some eye drops and/or eye ointment during this time for comfort.

Sleep on your back during the first 1-2 weeks to help minimise swelling and improve the healing process. You may wear glasses the day after your surgery, but wait for 2 weeks before using contacts or exposing yourself to the sun. You can exercise again after 2-4 weeks.

Dr. Gino Vissers will provide detailed post-operative instructions to promote optimal healing and ensure a smooth and comfortable recovery process.
