What is Botox?

Botox® is a brand of botulinum toxin used medically and cosmetically to temporarily reduce the activity of specific muscles.

When injected into carefully selected facial muscles, botulinum toxin reduces their ability to contract. This can soften dynamic lines and wrinkles that develop as a result of repeated facial movement.

At Dr Gino Vissers' Harley Street clinic, both Botox® and Bocouture® are available. The choice of product is discussed as part of your individual treatment plan.

Botulinum toxin can be used for much more than traditional forehead lines. Depending on your anatomy and goals, treatment can be used to address a wide range of facial concerns.

Should I have Botox?

Anti-wrinkle treatment is a preventative procedure. It is a good treatment for anyone who wants to avoid getting lines and wrinkles. If you have already developed severe lines and winkles, one of our other treatments may be more appropriate for you.

During your consultation, Dr Gino Vissers will assess your skin and facial features, and determine whether you are a good candidate for Botox injections.

Botox injections can treat any of the following issues:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines
  • Crow's feet
  • Tired or angry look
  • Gummy smile
  • Neck lines
  • Imbalanced facial features (jawline slimming, lip flip, chin dimpling)
  • Excessive sweating
  • Migraines

Botox treatments available at Harley Street

Dr Gino Vissers offers a comprehensive range of Botox, with each indication assessed individually.

Forehead lines

Say goodbye to unwanted forehead lines and wrinkles. By injecting small amounts  into the forehead muscles, we can temporarily relax them, reducing the appearance of forehead lines and creating a smoother, more youthful forehead.

Frown lines

If frown lines between your eyebrows are making you look tired or angry, our treatment can help. By carefully administering the product, Dr. Gino Vissers can soften the frown lines, giving you a more relaxed and approachable appearance.

Crow's feet

Crow's feet, the fine lines around the eyes, can be effectively treated with anti-wrinkle injections. By precisely targeting the muscles responsible for these wrinkles, we can diminish their appearance and restore a more youthful and vibrant look to your eyes.

Eyebrow lift

For those seeking a non-surgical solution to lift and shape the eyebrows, our anti-wrinkle treatment offers a fantastic option. By injecting the product strategically, Dr. Gino Vissers can lift the eyebrows, opening up the eyes and creating a more refreshed appearance.

Gummy smile

If you feel self-conscious about showing too much gum when you smile, our muscle relaxant treatment can help. By injecting the toxin into the lip muscles, we can relax the upper lip, reducing the visibility of the gums and allowing you to confidently share your smile.

Lip flip

Achieve fuller-looking lips without the need for fillers with Dr. Gino Vissers' lip flip treatment. By targeting the muscles around the lips, we can create a subtle upward curl, giving the illusion of a more pronounced and alluring upper lip. Results will last about six weeks.

Bunny lines

Small lines can develop across the sides of the nose when certain facial muscles contract.

Targeted anti-wrinkle treatment can soften these lines while preserving normal facial expression.

Mouth corners

Anti-wrinkle injections can sometimes be used to reduce the downward pull at the corners of the mouth.

This may create a subtly more neutral or lifted appearance in carefully selected patients.

Excessive sweating

Botulinum toxin can be used to treat excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis.

By temporarily blocking the nerve signals responsible for stimulating sweat production, treatment can significantly reduce sweating in appropriately selected areas.

Jawline slimming

For those desiring a more sculpted and feminine jawline, Dr. Gino Vissers' jawline slimming treatment can help. By injecting the relaxant into the masseter muscles, we can reduce their size and create a slimmer and more contoured jawline.

Chin dimpling

Chin dimples can be charming, but if you prefer a smoother chin, our anti-wrinkle treatment is an excellent option. By relaxing the specific muscles causing the dimpling, we can achieve a smoother chin appearance and enhance overall facial harmony.

Neck lines

Visible lines and wrinkles on the neck can betray your age and undermine your confidence. Dr. Gino Vissers' anti-wrinkle treatment can effectively address these concerns by relaxing the muscles and reducing the appearance of neck lines.

Your Botox treatment at Harley Street

1. Complimentary consultation

Your appointment begins with an assessment by Dr Gino Vissers. He will discuss what you would like to improve, assess your facial anatomy and muscle activity, and explain which treatment options are appropriate for you.

There is no requirement to have treatment on the day.

However, if you are suitable and would like to proceed, your consultation and Botox treatment can take place during the same appointment.

2. Personalised treatment plan

There is no standard Botox treatment that is suitable for everyone. The amount and placement of injections are determined according to your individual anatomy, muscle strength, facial proportions and desired outcome. Dr Vissers' objective is to achieve a balanced result rather than simply eliminating every visible line.

3. Treatment

Botox® or Bocouture® is injected into carefully selected muscles using a very fine needle.

The procedure is generally quick, with minimal disruption to your day.

4. Two-week review

Dr Vissers offers a routine two-week review following treatment. This provides an opportunity to assess your response, discuss your result and make any appropriate adjustments where necessary.

When will I see my Botox results?

Botulinum toxin does not work immediately. You may begin to notice a change within several days, with the effect continuing to develop over approximately two weeks. The full effect is generally assessed at your two-week review.

The duration of results varies between individuals and depends on factors including the treatment area, muscle activity and individual response.

For many patients, the effect lasts approximately three to four months, although this can vary.

How does Botox work?

Botox works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that control muscle contractions. When injected into specific muscles, it inhibits their ability to contract, causing them to relax. This relaxation of the muscles smooths out the overlying skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

When we make facial expressions or perform repetitive movements, such as squinting or frowning, the underlying muscles contract, creating lines and wrinkles over time. By injecting small amounts of muscle relaxant into precise locations, the targeted muscles become temporarily paralysed. This prevents the muscle contractions that cause the skin to fold or crease, leading to a visible reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

The effects of anti-wrinkle treatments typically take a few days to become noticeable and reach their maximum effect within two weeks. The results are temporary, lasting for three to four months. As the muscle activity gradually returns, the wrinkles and lines may reappear, prompting a follow-up treatment to maintain the desired outcome.

Will Botox make my face look frozen?

This is one of the most common concerns patients have before treatment.

A natural result does not necessarily mean eliminating all movement. The objective is to reduce excessive muscle activity and soften unwanted lines while maintaining appropriate facial expression.

Dr Vissers takes a conservative and personalised approach to treatment, considering your facial anatomy, muscle movement and aesthetic goals rather than using a standard injection pattern for every patient.

The goal is to help you look fresher and more rested, not “done”.

What to expect after Botox injections?

It is Dr Gino Vissers' priority to provide you with a convenient experience that seamlessly fits into your busy lifestyle. After your appointment, you can typically resume your daily routine immediately, thanks to the short downtime associated with our anti-wrinkle injections.

After your treatment, you may experience some mild swelling, which usually settles within 20 minutes. Avoid any heavy excercise, sauna, facial massages or excessive alcohol in the first 24 hours following your treatment.

Botox or dermal fillers: which is right for me?

Botox and dermal fillers work in fundamentally different ways.

Botox® and Bocouture® temporarily reduce the activity of specific muscles. They are therefore particularly useful for dynamic lines caused by repeated facial movement.

Dermal fillers are primarily used to restore or enhance volume and can address concerns such as loss of facial volume, deeper folds, hollowing and certain contour irregularities.

Some patients benefit from one treatment, while others may achieve a better result from a combination.

During your consultation, Dr Vissers will assess your face and explain which option — or combination of treatments — is most appropriate. Explore dermal filler in Harley Street.

Is Botox safe?

Botulinum toxin has been used medically for many years and is used for a wide range of medical and aesthetic indications.

As with any medical treatment, anti-wrinkle injections have potential risks and side effects. These can include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness and headache. Temporary weakness of nearby muscles can occasionally occur.

Dr Vissers will discuss the benefits, limitations and potential risks of treatment with you before proceeding.

Treatment may not be appropriate for everyone. Your medical history, medications, pregnancy or breastfeeding status and individual circumstances will be considered during your consultation.

Natural Botox results start with the right assessment

Successful anti-wrinkle treatment is about more than knowing where to inject. The same injection pattern will not produce the same result in every face.

Dr Gino Vissers combines his experience in facial plastic surgery with detailed facial assessment to create treatment plans that are specific to each patient.

Whether you are having Botox for the first time or are looking for a more refined approach after previous treatment, your facial anatomy, expression and aesthetic goals remain central to the treatment plan.

Botox Harley Street FAQs

  • How much does Botox cost at Harley Street?

The cost of Botox treatment varies depending on the number of areas being treated and your individual treatment plan. Dr Gino Vissers does not publish Botox prices directly on the website. Instead, patients can download the clinic's current treatment brochure, which contains detailed pricing information.

During your complimentary consultation, Dr Vissers will discuss your concerns, assess your facial anatomy and muscle activity, and recommend the most appropriate treatment for you. There is no requirement to proceed with treatment following your consultation.

Download the clinic brochure for current Botox and anti-wrinkle treatment prices.

  • How do I know whether I need anti-wrinkle treatment or fillers?

This is depending on the type of wrinkles you would like to treat, the degree of muscle movement in your face, your facial anatomy, your health history, and your personal aesthetic goals, and it is therefore unique for every person. Dr. Gino Vissers will perform a thorough assessment prior to your treatment, to make sure you will receive the best treatment for you.

  • Can I have my Botox consultation and treatment on the same day?

Receiving too much anti-wrinkle injections in the wrong places, can make your face look “frozen” or unnatural. We can assure you that Dr. Gino Vissers is skilled in making you look like your normal self - just noticeably more youthful and refreshed!

  • Who performs Botox treatment at Dr Gino Vissers' Harley Street clinic?

All Botox® and Bocouture® treatments are personally performed by Dr Gino Vissers.

Dr Vissers is a triple board-certified Consultant Plastic Surgeon with more than a decade of clinical experience. His specialist interest is facial aesthetics and facial plastic surgery, giving him extensive experience in assessing facial proportions, muscle activity and the anatomy of the face.

Unlike some aesthetic clinics where patients may be treated by different practitioners, your treatment at Dr Gino Vissers' Harley Street clinic is personally assessed and performed by Dr Vissers.

This doctor-led approach allows every treatment to be tailored to the individual rather than following a standard injection pattern.

  • Do you use Botox or Bocouture?

Dr Gino Vissers offers both Botox® and Bocouture® for anti-wrinkle treatment.

Botox and Bocouture are brand names for botulinum toxin type A products that can be used to temporarily reduce the activity of selected facial muscles. The appropriate product will be discussed with you during your consultation.

The choice of product is only one part of achieving a good result. Precise assessment, appropriate dosing and accurate placement are equally important. Dr Vissers will recommend the most appropriate treatment based on your facial anatomy, muscle activity, treatment area and desired outcome.

  • How long does Botox take to work?

Botox does not produce its full effect immediately.

Most patients begin to notice changes within several days of treatment, with the effect developing progressively as the treated muscles become less active. The result is generally assessed at approximately two weeks, which is why Dr Gino Vissers offers a routine two-week review.

The exact speed of onset can vary between individuals and between treatment areas.

At your review, Dr Vissers can assess the result and, where clinically appropriate, make any necessary adjustments.

If you are having Botox for the first time, it is particularly useful to allow sufficient time for the treatment to reach its full effect before assessing the final result.

  • How long does Botox last?

The results of Botox and other botulinum toxin treatments are temporary.

For many patients, the effects last approximately three to four months, although the duration varies depending on factors such as the treatment area, muscle strength, individual metabolism and previous treatment history.

Some patients may find that their results last longer, while others may notice movement returning sooner.

Regular treatment does not mean that you need to follow a fixed schedule. Dr Vissers will advise you on appropriate maintenance treatment based on how you respond and your individual aesthetic goals.

The aim is not to treat more frequently than necessary, but to maintain a natural and balanced result.

  • Can Botox look natural?

Yes. Natural-looking Botox results are one of the main goals of Dr Gino Vissers' approach to anti-wrinkle treatment.

Botox does not need to completely eliminate facial movement to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles. In many patients, the objective is to reduce excessive muscle activity while maintaining appropriate facial expression.

Dr Vissers considers your natural facial movement, brow position, facial proportions and muscle strength before deciding where and how much botulinum toxin to use.

A personalised approach can help avoid an overly treated or “frozen” appearance.

The aim is to soften unwanted lines while allowing you to continue to look like yourself — simply fresher, more rested and naturally refined.

  • Can men have Botox?

Absolutely. Botox is suitable for both men and women, although the treatment approach may differ according to facial anatomy and aesthetic goals.

Men typically have different patterns of muscle development, facial proportions and brow anatomy compared with women. For this reason, using the same injection pattern and dosage for every patient is not appropriate.

Dr Gino Vissers takes an individualised approach to male Botox treatment, considering factors such as forehead height, brow position, muscle strength, jawline proportions and natural facial expression.

Treatment can be used in men to soften forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet, as well as for indications such as masseter reduction, jawline slimming, excessive sweating and other concerns.

The goal is to create a refreshed and natural appearance without unnecessarily changing masculine facial characteristics.

  • Is Botox painful?

Most patients find Botox injections very tolerable.

Botulinum toxin is administered using a very fine needle, and the injections themselves are generally very quick. You may experience a brief pinching or stinging sensation at individual injection points.

Anaesthetic is not usually required for standard Botox treatment.

Some temporary redness, swelling or small raised areas may be visible immediately after injections. These generally settle relatively quickly.

If you are particularly nervous about needles or injections, mention this during your consultation so that Dr Vissers can discuss ways to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.

  • Can I go back to work after Botox?

Yes. Botox is a treatment with minimal downtime, and most patients can return to their normal daily activities immediately afterwards.

You may have some temporary redness, mild swelling or small injection marks immediately following treatment. Bruising can occasionally occur and may take several days to settle.

Because there is generally no significant recovery period, many patients choose to have Botox during a lunch break or before returning to work.

Dr Vissers will provide individual aftercare advice following your treatment, including guidance about activities immediately after your injections.

If you have an important event coming up, such as a wedding, holiday or professional engagement, it is sensible to allow sufficient time for any temporary swelling or bruising to settle and for the final result to develop.

  • When should I have my next Botox treatment?

There is no single treatment schedule that is right for everyone.

Botox results commonly last around three to four months, but the duration varies between individuals and treatment areas. Your next treatment should be based on the return of muscle movement and your aesthetic goals rather than simply following a fixed calendar schedule.

Dr Gino Vissers can advise you on appropriate maintenance treatment during your consultation and follow-up appointments.

The objective is to maintain a natural result while avoiding unnecessary treatment.

If you are new to Botox, your first few treatments can also provide useful information about how your muscles respond and how long your individual results last.

  • Can Botox treat more than wrinkles?

Yes. Although Botox is widely known for treating facial lines and wrinkles, botulinum toxin has a wide range of aesthetic and medical applications.

Depending on your individual anatomy and treatment goals, Dr Gino Vissers may use botulinum toxin to address concerns including:

    • Forehead lines
    • Frown lines between the eyebrows
    • Crow's feet around the eyes
    • Brow position
    • Bunny lines around the nose
    • Gummy smile
    • Lip flip
    • Downturned corners of the mouth
    • Chin dimpling
    • Masseter prominence and jawline slimming
    • Platysmal bands and selected neck concerns
    • Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis

Different areas require different injection techniques and treatment plans. Not every indication is suitable for every patient, which is why an individual assessment is important.

  • What areas of the face can Botox treat?

Botox can be used to treat several areas of the upper and lower face, depending on your anatomy and aesthetic goals.

Common facial treatment areas include the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows and crow's feet around the eyes. These are sometimes referred to as the three traditional areas of facial anti-wrinkle treatment.

Botulinum toxin can also be used selectively for the brows, nose, upper lip, chin and corners of the mouth.

The treatment is not simply about identifying a wrinkle and injecting directly into it. Facial muscles interact with one another, so Dr Vissers assesses the face as a whole before creating an individual treatment plan.

  • What is the difference between Botox and dermal fillers?

Botox and dermal fillers are different treatments that address different aspects of facial ageing.

Botox and Bocouture are botulinum toxin treatments that temporarily reduce the activity of selected muscles. They are particularly useful for dynamic lines and wrinkles caused by repeated facial movement.

Dermal fillers, by contrast, are injectable gels used primarily to restore or enhance facial volume and contour. They may be appropriate for concerns such as volume loss, hollowing, deeper folds or certain facial proportions.

Some patients may benefit from Botox alone, while others may achieve a more comprehensive result through a combination of anti-wrinkle treatment and dermal fillers.

Dr Vissers will recommend treatment based on your facial anatomy and the underlying cause of your concern rather than automatically recommending an injectable treatment.

  • Does Botox permanently remove wrinkles?

No. Botox provides a temporary reduction in muscle activity and does not permanently remove wrinkles.

Dynamic lines are caused or contributed to by repeated contraction of facial muscles. By temporarily reducing the activity of selected muscles, botulinum toxin can soften the appearance of these lines.

As muscle activity gradually returns, treated lines may begin to become more visible again.

Other factors, including skin quality, sun exposure, facial volume and the natural ageing process, also contribute to wrinkles. This is why a comprehensive facial assessment is important when considering long-term facial rejuvenation.

  • Will I still be able to move my face after Botox?

The aim of well-planned Botox treatment is not necessarily to eliminate facial movement.

Facial expression is an important part of how we communicate, and Dr Gino Vissers believes that natural movement should be preserved wherever appropriate.

The amount of movement remaining after treatment depends on the areas treated, the dose used, your individual muscle strength and your desired outcome.

Some patients prefer a more noticeable reduction in movement, while others want only a subtle softening of lines. Your treatment can therefore be tailored to your preferences and facial anatomy.

  • How quickly can I have Botox at Harley Street?

If you are suitable for treatment, you may be able to have your Botox consultation and treatment during the same appointment.

The consultation is complimentary and provides an opportunity to discuss your concerns and treatment goals with Dr Gino Vissers directly.

If you decide to proceed and treatment is considered appropriate, the injections can be performed during the same visit.

Alternatively, you can attend the consultation and take time to consider your options before arranging treatment.

    Book your consultation here.

  • What happens during a Botox consultation?

Your appointment begins with a personal consultation with Dr Gino Vissers.

He will discuss what you would like to improve and assess your facial anatomy, muscle movement and existing lines. He will also consider your previous experience with Botox or other aesthetic treatments, if applicable.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions about:

    • Which areas could be treated
    • How much movement may remain
    • Expected results
    • Possible risks and side effects
    • Recovery and aftercare
    • Botox versus other treatment options
    • Whether combination treatment may be appropriate

Dr Vissers will then recommend an individual treatment plan.

There is no obligation to proceed with treatment following your consultation.

  • Can Botox be combined with other facial treatments?

Yes. Depending on your individual needs, Botox may form part of a broader facial rejuvenation plan.

For example, some patients may benefit from combining anti-wrinkle treatment with dermal fillers, skin treatments or other non-surgical procedures.

Because Botox primarily addresses muscle activity while other treatments address volume, skin quality or other aspects of facial ageing, combining treatments can sometimes provide a more comprehensive result.

However, combination treatment is not automatically necessary. Dr Vissers will recommend only treatments that are appropriate for your individual goals.
